Inuit Spirits And Ice Fields - Expedition Akor Week 16

While travelling up the Meadowbank River (bypassing lakes when necessary), the team of expedition Akor, to their great surprise, encountered partially frozen lakes again this week (in mid-July!).

They circumnavigated around the ice along the shoreline, which caused some delays. However, they managed to resume their route during the days that followed.

As of right now, it seems they will be done with the ice for good - but who knows what surprises the North will throw at them!

Following their trip up the Meadowbank River, they crossed into a new watershed: the Thelon River watershed. This takes them to Baker Lake, which is where they should arrive next... however long that might take.

This week, the guys were able to get better acquainted with a very sociable insect that is known for its exemplary company: the mosquito. It even forced them to have dinner in the tent, as its taste for good company could not be satisfied at dusk. Fortunately, the wind blows strongly during the day, which disperses these six-legged vampires.

As our brave adventurers found ancient Inuit sites, they often marvelled at their status as tourists in these places and reflected on their own experiences. Even though many parts of this land appear uninhabited and hostile, they are imbued with the spirits of the people who once lived and still live there.

The repairs to the canoes that the men performed are still holding up. The guys took a day off for pleasure, during which they teased the trout. They are anxious to get to Baker Lake, but with everything going well, no injuries and the warm weather, they are in less of a hurry than last time.
