WHAT MOTIVATES YOU EVERY DAY TO TRAIN?
I am definitely motivated by races - especially for structured training, but honestly living in an outdoor paradise is also a huge contribution. It’s easy to get out the door and onto the Mountain trails when you live in Canmore!
DO YOU HAVE A PERSON WHO INSPIRES YOU?
My Dirtbag Runners crew inspires me the most. We have enthusiastic newbies and seasoned pros pushing really hard every week to be better runners, in all weathers. That inspires me!
WHAT ARE YOUR TIPS FOR NOT LOSING ENERGY DURING your races?
Fueling is key, and there are so many options. I think every athlete needs to find what works for them, and it takes some trial and error. Try different nutritional approaches, especially in your long sessions. Find what works and stick to it.
WHAT IS YOUR BEST RACING MEMORY?
I think my best memory was my 16 year old son George pacing me through the final 10 miles and into the finish of Western States 100 in 2016. The rest of the family joined for the final mile or so. That was a pretty awesome moment.
WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU LIKE TO DO AFTER A RACE?
Well I usually give my wife and crew a hug, then a beer generally follows!
What is your favorite music to surpass yourself in training?
I have an eclectic taste and my running playlists are quite varied - anything from classical to hip hop! It amuses my family that there’s even some T Swift in there haha. I have a few go-to tunes that I won’t share!
What is your favourite Näak product?
Right now, I am loving the Maple Walnut Ultra Energy bars!
